Sanitising the Spa Pool
Sanitising the Spa Pool
The recommended level of chlorine is 2.00 - 3.00ppm and Bromine is 2.00 - 4.00ppm. It is most important to have sufficient sanitiser in your spa to keep your water healthy and free of micro-organisms. Always keep the sanitiser level at 2.00 -3.00ppm. In very hot water the sanitiser can be used up very quickly and should be checked regularly whilst the spa is being used. After heavy use or on a weekly basis the spa should be shocked using Spa Pro Shock. Be sure to check the level again before use. Your Pool Pro Professional will advise you on the most suitable products and their use.
Changing Spa Water
Changing spa water
Spa water should be changed every three to four months depending on usage. Alternatively remove and replace 1/3rd of the water volume every three to four weeks (if you do a partial water change, don't forget to test and balance the spa water).
Follow these steps to do a full water change:
- Before you drain your spa water, use Spa Pro SPA & PIPE FLUSHA to flush out scum that accumulates in the pipes.
- Once you have flushed the pipes, turn the power off to the spa.
- Follow the spa manufacturer's instructions on how to drain the water.
- Don't forget to remove the filters and clean them with Spa Pro FILTER CLEANER & DEGREASER.
- Wipe down the interior surface of the empty spa with a soft sponge or cloth and mild dishwashing liquid. Feel free to wipe again with the sponge and plain water.
- Take this opportunity to inspect the interior's surface for any damage, as well as any jets, nozzles and buttons.
- Follow the spa manufacturer's instructions for how to refill the spa.
- Turn the power back on to the spa and begin running the spa.
- Add in your spa chemicals according to the specific label instructions. Always take care when handling any pool and spa chemicals.
Spa Alkalinity
Total Alkalinity
The recommended total alkalinity level is 90 - 100ppm. The total alkalinity range should be in the range of 90 to 150ppm. To raise total alkalinity use Spa Pro Alkalinity Increaser in small quantities. To lower total alkalinity use Spa Pro pH Reducer which is a much safer alternative to Hydrochloric Acid.
For pH levels the recommended level is 7.2 – 7.6pH. pH is measured on a scale of 1 to 14, with 7 being neutral. A pH level below 7 means the water is acidic, and above 7 means the water is alkaline. Incorrect pH levels can cause poor chlorine or bromine efficiency, eye and skin irritations, corrosion of metal fittings, cloudy water and formation of scale on the spa's walls and fittings. pH should always be above 7 and measured at room temperature (not hot). It should never be allowed to get higher than 7.8. To increase pH add Spa Pro pH Increaser to lower pH use Spa Pro pH Reducer. After adjusting wait for one hour and then test again.
The Basics of Spa Pool Management
The Basics of Spa Pool Management
If you own a spa pool or hot tub, it is important to understand that it requires a certain amount of maintenance to ensure it operates properly and that the water remains clean and free from bacteria and pollutants. The treatment differs from that for a pool because you are usually dealing with hot water. Hot water requires different treatment to prevent the development of viruses, bacteria and algae.
Spa Pro Bromine is the recognised sanitiser for hot water. You will need to check Bromine levels (hot water), chlorine levels (cold water), total alkalinity, and pH on a regular basis. Your Pool Pro Professional will be able to advise you of a suitable test kit and it’s correct use. For general hygiene it is important to keep the filter and pump clean.
Pool Pro Filter Cleaner and Degreaser is designed for filter cleaning.
Special Note: Never ever mix chemicals. Do not add water to chemicals, always add chemicals to water.
